1970's fiberglass DUO outboard - taking
care of your dad's old boat.
The new plywood floor is installed, glassed and flotation foam is shot in under
the floors.
Everything is glued in place.
The new laminated transom and longitudinal stringers are fitted.
Everything is removed and ground out back to solid glass. Ready for new
components.
The stringers where just glass taped in a few areas over their length. In
between, it was just unfinished spruce.
Out come the new floor, old floor, stringers and flotation foam. What a mess!
Not only that, we found that the last people to work on the hull had installed a
"new" floor right over the top of the old rotted floor.
We took the deck off, removed the upper part of the transom and found the
exposed part of the longitudinal stringers very rotted.
As usual, once you start opening the hull up there is more to the project than
originally thought.
A 1970's DUO outboard runabout brought to us for transom work.
